Density MA Design Studio, SOSE 24: Adlershof Soil Futures.
Authors: Alexander Dürr, Benedikt Jährling, Hoyul Jeon, Ida Hennes, Jasper Reidt, Stefan Dahlitz, and Tamina Mund-Heller

The goal was to develop a climate-friendly and progressive design for the city of tomorrow in the context of Adlershof. The explicit consideration and proper management of the sensitive soil ecosystem played a decisive role.

After decades of extreme growth and massive environmental destruction, continuing as before is unthinkable. The previous methods and approaches have caused significant damage to our natural resources, reflected in the depletion of natural resources, loss of biodiversity, and climate change. Therefore, new concepts are required that enable stronger community bonds and more resource-efficient living.

How can a coexistence of humans, animals, and plants be achieved in the growing peripheral areas of Berlin? How can human and structural density be increased without further land sealing? We addressed these and many other questions during the intensive study of the “Density” layer.
