When you can taste the neighbours work, hear the raised bed, smell the birds chirping and touch the fresh, oxygen-soaked air, synaesthesia permeates the urban fabric. The Adlershof research and science centre could bridge the gap between a place that historically reached for the sky and a place that is now rediscovering the ground beneath its own feet. Productive urban landscape is more than just a few tomatoes on the balcony. It can be a contribution to socially sustainable, climate-resilient and more secure daily life. It can connect region and city, it can make us more independent, bring us closer together, while getting our hands dirty.
This project demonstrates a method of activating urban soil in a way that is both uncompromising and yet suitable. Everything has to happen at the same time, everywhere, as much as possible. It is totally complicated. Perhaps Bosch’s painting Garden of Eden can become a garden of sweet fruits, new friends and closeness to nature. Hello to Adlershof, enjoy your meal.
