The first phase of the Soilscapes - Böden Berlins was an analytical mapping exercise. Each group had to research their site through a set of determined analytical layers — all as part of a collective
atlas. All drawings were produced by hand and superimposed on each other to investigate the sites through multiple analytic layers. A) The Nolli Plan Revisited: A thorough mapping of the unbuilt surface in great details, as well as a detailed description of the different soil and ground textures. B) Palimpsest layer:
The incremental historical development of your site. C) Typo-morphology layer: The mapping of the dimensions and proportions of built, unbuilt private and unbuilt public space. D) Ecosystem layer:
The vegetation cover, animals, temperature, water infiltration, etc. E) (Co)habitation layer: This layer depicts the social uses, mobilities etc. as found on site.
